Urushi maki-e is applied to natural stone. This is a one-of-a-kind art piece made by a craftsman of Buddhist altar maki-e. Maki-e is a crafting technique in which layers of lacquer are applied and gold powder and mother-of-pearl inlays are used to create a glittering effect. The technique of maki-e is used in abundance in this item.
The eyes of this sea bream are embedded with mother-of-pearl inlay, and the freshness of the sea bream is expressed with subtle nuances of gold dust sprinkled on the scales. It is recommended as a paperweight and as an interior accent for the New Year.
