YOAKE

"Gusuku Hanaori" is a fabric born in 2000 with a strong Okinawan mindset.

A new women's brand called "YOAKE" was born using this GUSUKU HANAORI to pass on Okinawa's traditional weaving patterns to the next generation. Please enjoy your own new story clad in the beautiful history that has just begun.

Commitment to Our Products:

  • In Okinawa Prefecture, traditional textiles called "Hanaori" exist in many places.
  • Hanaori is a type of floating weave, in which the threads are removed from the weave during the weaving process to create a floating pattern.
  • Hanaori originated as a fabric for kimono, and its high prestige made it difficult for it to spread among young people.
  • Therefore, to pass on Okinawa's traditional weaving patterns to the next generation and promote their development, Nambuhara Hanaori (*Haebaru Hanaori = a craft produced mainly in Nambuhara-cho, Shimajiri-gun, Okinawa Prefecture) was created by Tamaki, a weaver of Hanaori.
  • Mr. Tsuyoshi Tamaki, a former weaver of Haeharu Hanaori (a craft produced mainly in Nambuhara-cho, Shimajiri-gun, Okinawa Prefecture), started to develop Gusuku Hanaori, a machine-made weaving technique.
  • Since 2000, he has been weaving at Tamagusuku Itokazu in Nanjo City, incorporating the flower weaving technique and using automatic looms to produce wide, strong fabrics with Okinawan weave patterns and unique textures.
  • We have succeeded in evolving traditional hanaori as Western-style clothing fabric, expressing the comfort and beauty of the pattern so that future generations can enjoy wearing it.

In the products of "YOAKE," we want to make people aware of traditions and cultures from the past and make them feel more familiar. This is also our desire.

First of all, we have focused on a modern and contemporary design and a loose fit that can be worn by young and old alike, so that people will want to try it on.

Above all, we hope that women all over the world will enjoy wearing this wonderful textile.
