The pattern of chrysanthemums and paulownia arranged together is considered a noble design, and in particular, the 16-petal chrysanthemum and the 53 paulownia are considered the emblem of the imperial family.
The 16-petal chrysanthemum and the 53 paulownia are considered to be the emblem of the imperial family.
At the end of the Edo period (1823), Yoshidaya Den'emon, a wealthy merchant in Daishoji, Ishikawa Prefecture, revived Kutaniyaki after more than 100 years of absence, and produced this large flat dish.
The original is in the Idemitsu Museum of Arts in Tokyo, but the owner, Sazo Idemitsu, came to our Kutani Bitoen and created this large flat dish with a chrysanthemum and paulownia design on it,
The owner, Sazo Idemitsu, came to our Kutani Bitoen and asked us to make a replica of this flat dish with the chrysanthemum paulownia design as a memento.
The Idemitsu Museum of Arts is one of the leading museums in the collection of Kutaniyaki, and I believe that this piece was chosen as a commemorative item because it was considered to be one of the finest pieces in the collection.
This gorgeous piece was painted by Yuzo Yamagishi, who has been selected for the Nitten Exhibition and the Exhibition of Traditional Crafts, and is still painting the same piece today.
Mr. Yuzo YamagishiWe are very indebted to our relative, Mr. Yuzo Yamagishi.
Eio Teramae's father's family is the Yamagishi family, and when we visited them at New Year's, he would serve us a large number of dishes on a magnificent Daishoji Imari set of 20 pieces that he had made himself.
The Kutani Bitoen's Ko-Kutani and Yoshidaya copies are almost always painted by Yuzo Yamagishi, who has won many prizes at the Nitten and the Exhibition of Traditional Crafts.
Mr. Yamagishi Masaaki and his son, Mr. Yamagishi Taisei, are also successful Kutani potters from the Yamagishi family.
Mr. Sazo Idemitsu, the president of Idemitsu, came to our studio and asked us to make a copy of a work from the Idemitsu Museum of Arts as a commemorative gift for his company.
We asked Yuzo Yamagishi to draw it for us, and he was very pleased with the quality of the work. This is the Shakuji plate with Kiku-Kiri design.
Microwave-safe, dishwasher-safe
Please note that there may be some iron powders and pinholes because it is handmade.
