It is said that Hokusai acquired not only the so-called traditional Japanese Yamato-e technique, but also various techniques from both the West and the East.
In fact, "Fugaku Sanjurokkei (Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji)" skillfully incorporates and mixes Western perspective, Yamato-e's arrangement method, and the Chinese method of shading, which was said to be the latest at the time.
He used a new type of painting material called "Vero Ai" imported from Western Europe at the time, instead of the traditional iwa-e paints.
The reason why "Fugaku Sanjurokkei" is a masterpiece is that it is a work in which Hokusai poured everything he had accumulated and reached a certain point of perfection.
