19. MASAMUNE, dark blue, Date Masamune motif, Nishijin brocade silk Kyoto fan

[Handmade by craftsmen in Kyoto].

A handmade Nishijin silk Kyoto fan with a motif of Lord Date Masamune, the founder of the Sendai clan, who was famous as a Date man in the Warring States period (1467-1568).

This is a very rare and luxurious Nishijin silk fan made in Kyoto, which is made of necktie fabric directly into a fan.

The pattern is a design in which the crescent-shaped front helmets, which were also the model for Lord Darth Vader in the movie Star Wars, can be recognized at a glance. While also utilizing the color scheme of the crescent helmets in jet black and gold, it is finished with gold stripes on a near-black Katsu color (a dark indigo color that is even darker than dark blue and looks black, a favorite auspicious color among warriors). The color is darker than navy blue, and is a color of good omen favored by samurai.

Nishijin brocade and Kyoto folding fans both have a history of over 1,200 years, and each fan is carefully made by craftsmen in Kyoto, making it a great souvenir to take overseas. It comes with a fan bag and a box, and together with a necktie of the same pattern, it makes a very nice gift set.

*It takes more than three months from weaving to processing to make this top-quality product, handmade by craftsmen in Kyoto.
