The Nikko Kaido is a highway that connects Tokyo to Nikko, a distance of about 140 km.
It was one of the five major highways used by the Edo period (1603-1867) to travel between Tokyo and Nikko.

Kawase Bessui (1883-1957) was a printmaker active from the Taisho era to the Showa era. He loved traveling and sketched all over Japan, creating more than 600 woodblock prints.
