The NARADOLLHIGASHIDA Hiina Asobi Series represents a modern expression of the Hiina Asobi from the Tale of Genji, the origin of Hinamatsuri. This set comprises Ouchiura-sama and San-nin Kanjo (three courtesans), elegantly housed in a charming octagonal paulownia box.
The red-orange color was crafted to embody the vibrancy and liveliness that enhance any space. NARADOLLHIGASHIDA prides itself on being entirely handmade, employing the Nara Itto-bori technique. This method, named after the soul infused into each sword, involves bold carving on large wood surfaces, followed by delicate coloring using Japanese paints and gold leaf.
Originating 800 years ago in Nara, Nara Itto-bori carving attained artistic eminence during the Edo period (1603-1868) under master craftsman Morikawa Toen. Renowned Japanese sculptor Hirakushi Tanaka greatly admired Toen's work, amassing a collection of Nara Itto-bori carvings.
NARADOLLHIGASHIDA meticulously reexamines Nara Itto-bori carving, aiming to restore its original significance in people's daily lives, integrating thoughtful design to harmonize this ancient craft with the modern age.
