This bowl is made of Japanese zelkova, finished with a potter's wheel, and finished with a wood-ground Lu-nuri coating,

Kijiro-nuri is a technique of lacquering by using permeable lacquer called Tame-urushi to make the best use of the beautiful grain of zelkova.
The lacquer is a dry coating technique using conventional chemical paints. Unlike the drying process of conventional chemical paints, Tame-Urushi is a lacquer that dries from the surface through a chemical reaction between water vapor and oxygen in the air.
The process is different from the conventional drying process of chemical paints.
The lacquer is then oxidized to produce heat, which causes it to turn black at first, but it gradually becomes almost transparent.
