Until now, it has been impossible to actually see the correct colors of the various colors that color literature, and one has only been able to infer the correct colors by searching through literature.
In this book, the author, an authority on color science, uses authoritative sources, such as old documents, old tea leaves, and dye sample books that he has collected over the years, to verify his findings, and then test-dye them to confirm their color tones.
For each of the 225 colors, the author has included information on dyestuffs, old dyeing methods, color tones, and history of color trends. The encyclopedia of Japanese color art also includes a chronological table of documents, a contrast table of Japanese and Western color names, references, and English names, as well as a color chart for easy reference.
