Germany-based jewelry designer Saskia Dietz has designed porcelain jewelry using a motif commonly used in Japan: scales.
Scales, which are often found in Japanese patterns, exist in a variety of motifs, including dragons, carp, fish, and snakes, and each of these symbols has a different meaning.
She notes that while Japan has strong meanings when it comes to symbolic ornamentation and motifs, it does not have a particularly rich heritage when it comes to jewelry making, as dragons, for example, signify wisdom and virtue, and carp signify determination, courage, and success.
The jewelry she creates is contemporary in design, yet the motifs hide deeper meanings.

About the designer
Saskia Diez
Saskia Diez started her career as a designer after gaining experience as a goldsmith. After studying industrial design in Germany and working in several design studios, she established her own studio in Munich and in 2007 launched her own label, gaining international recognition as a jewelry designer.
Handcrafted from a variety of materials including stone, wood, and metal, his work is a visual expression of luxury with an emphasis on universality. The items created in a given year are taken from a previous series of his designs and developed into a new series, a unique approach that is not influenced by the fashion trends that change each year.
