Critical Changes to US Shipping Policies - Please Read Carefully
Immediate Action Required
Effective August 29, 2025, significant changes to US customs regulations have impacted all international shipments. EMS shipping to the US has been suspended and new duties apply to all orders regardless of value.
What Has Changed?
De Minimis Exemption Eliminated: On July 30, 2025, President Trump signed an executive order ending the $800 duty-free exemption for all countries effective August 29, 2025.
This means:
- All orders to the US, regardless of value, are now subject to customs duties and tariffs
- Additional processing fees may apply at customs
- Delivery times may be extended due to additional customs procedures
- Buyers may be required to pay duties and fees upon delivery or before release
EMS Shipping Suspension
Critical Update: Japan Post has suspended EMS (Express Mail Service) shipping to the US effective August 27, 2025.
Impact on food and product shipping:
- Food products cannot be shipped to the US as they were primarily sent via EMS
- Small packets, parcels, and EMS goods containing commercial items are suspended
- Alternative courier services (DHL, FedEx, UPS) may be available but with higher costs and different restrictions
New Costs and Fees
Due to the elimination of the de minimis exemption, buyers should expect:
- Customs duties based on product type and country of origin
- Processing fees charged by customs authorities or courier services
- Handling fees that may vary by shipping method
- Potential storage fees if packages are held at customs
