The material used is porcelain, handmade by rokuro molding, leaving the fingerings from the water grinding process as they are.
The blue-colored material is applied to the outside and fired at 1260°C in an unglazed state.
The inside is a matte white porcelain glaze, and the blue coloring is partially applied to the outside of the glaze.
The blue coloring on the inside is due to the blue material on the outside passing through the base during firing, creating a unique atmosphere.

The bottom of the base is left as it is when the base is cut away.
The body is not ground at all.

The design of the clay brushes is made of colored clay one by one, and they are heaped up in relief.

Tou Tsuchiyama

The original brand of potter Keiji Tsuchiyama, Tou Tsuchiyama. The first generation of pottery was established in Higashiyama, Kyoto, by the first-generation potter from Terai, Nomi City, Ishikawa Prefecture, in the Taisho Era (1912-1926) and has continued for three to five generations.

Since the first generation, the kiln has specialized in underglaze blue and red porcelain. The pottery has earned the trust of the pottery industry for its precise work in Shozui, landscape, flower-and-bird, and other designs. Tsuchiyama has been producing beautiful and easy-to-use vessels based on this tradition.

Our pottery is not monotonous, heavy pieces made by mold making or machine crocheting. Our "usuzukuri" vessels are handmade using Kyoto Kiyomizuyaki techniques and are comfortable to hold in the hand. Our pottery is easy to use, suitable for any kind of food, and pursues beauty. We produce a wide variety of designs that can be used for everyday use or as gifts.
