Kutani Yaki porcelain and Edo glass: New possibilities for traditional crafts
Kutani Wa Glass is a fusion of two traditional crafts, Kutani Yaki porcelain and handmade glass such as Edo glass, each of which is carefully handmade to live up to their respective traditions. The Kutani Yaki legs are all hand-painted, and the glass portion is made exclusively of hand-blown glass, and the joints are made using techniques that have won the Good Design Award. Please take a look at the new possibilities of traditional craftsmanship that harmonize with your living space, regardless of whether it is Japanese or Western.

A world of elegance created over 360 years
The Ko-Kutani tradition was first promoted by the Daishoji clan around Meireki (1655).
The discovery of pottery stones in a mine in Kutani led Saijiro Goto of the Kaga Clan to Arita in Hizen, where he learned pottery techniques and built a kiln in the Kutani area.
The Ko-Kutani style was strongly influenced by the grandeur and splendor of the Kaga Hyakumangoku culture, and developed a unique and powerful stylistic beauty.
However, around the Genroku period (1700), the Ko-Kutani kilns were suddenly abandoned. The reason for this is still unknown.
About 80 years after the closure of the kilns, the Kasuga-yama Kiln was opened in Kanazawa around 1806 under the management of the Kaga Clan.
The Kutani revival period began with the appearance of numerous kilns, including the Mokubei style at the Kasugayama kiln, the Yoshidaya kiln, which was established by the Daishoji clan to revive Kutani at the site of the old Kutani kilns, the Iidaya kiln for red-painted fine-painted work fired at the Miyamotoya kiln, and the Eiraku kiln for gold brocade, each creating its own unique and wonderful style of painting. Each of these kilns created its own unique style of painting.
In the Meiji period (1868-1912), the Shoza style, which used Western-style paints for detailed painting and colored gold brocade, became famous, was exported, and established itself as an industrial Kutani ware.
