Kaga Yuzen: A Collaboration of Traditional Craftsmanship and the Global Environment for the Next Generation
Upcycle Kaga Yuzen Tenugui is a collaboration between Kaga Yuzen, a traditional Japanese craft, and TSUMUGI, a sustainable paper yarn made from unused paper resources and unutilized thinned wood.
Under the supervision of Mr. Hitotsugu Maida, an artist of Kaga Yuzen Maida Dyeing Craft, students of Kyoto Seika University, who will lead the next generation, designed and dyed the product using the Yuzen Dyeing technique with the theme of the global environment and coexistence.
In addition to the realistic flower and grass patterns that are typical of Kaga Yuzen, the works arranged in a modern style with the sensibility of the younger generation are also attracting attention.
They can be used in place of towels and furoshiki, as fashion items, as souvenirs, and blend into everyday life.
They feature the firm sewing of Made in Japan and the soft touch of natural materials.
