About traditional culture:
Palestinian embroidery is designated as World Intangible Cultural Heritage due to its profound history. This art form has been passed down from mother to daughter and across generations, with the oldest embroidery tracing back to BC times. The use of color carries specific meanings, with red symbolizing celebration and youth, while navy blue signifies mourning and old age. Traditional embroidered costumes (photo #3), each with a unique identity in various regions, converged into a common pattern known as "Palestinian embroidery" after the displacement of people following the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948.
About the creators:
"Holy Land Handicrafts Cooperatives Society" Established to safeguard local traditional crafts and artisans from the global economy, this society is the oldest member organization of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) in the Middle East. Collaborating closely with small workshops and an office serving as a window to the rest of the world, the society ensures the livelihood of approximately 2,000 people. Bridging Chopsticks purchases its products by directly communicating with Amira in the office.
