About the material:
The Palestinian region is the origin of the olive tree, and its cultivation dates back to BC (some of the trees are thousands of years old). The olive harvest takes place every fall, after which the trees are pruned to ensure their health. The pruned branches and trunks are then given to wood suppliers and transformed into a variety of crafts and daily necessities.
About the creators:
"Holy Land Handicrafts Cooperatives Society" Established to protect local traditional crafts and artisans from the global economy, it is the oldest member organization of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) in the Middle East. Working hand in hand with small workshops and an office that serves as a window to the rest of the world, the society guarantees the livelihood of approximately 2,000 people. Bridging Chopsticks buys its products by communicating directly with Amira in the office.
The situation in Palestine:
Palestine is a place with a deep history and warm people, and once you visit, you will want to go back (Diary of my stay: https://note.com/kakehashi_pale/m/m70c26db08307). We believe that connecting through fair trade with people who continue to protect their traditional work and activities even under occupation, and having their culture transcend national borders, will lead to grassroots peace.
About daily handling:
Do not soak the product in water for a long period. Do not use a dishwasher, microwave oven, oven, or any other appliance with a high temperature fluctuation. Do not use strong synthetic detergents or hard sponges as they may damage this natural material. Do not apply excessive force. Do not use the dish for cooking with dark or oily food as it may cause color migration or oil stains on the wood.
Care from time to time:
When the surface of the wood becomes fluffy, apply cooking oil to restore the wood's luster. If the surface is chipped or scratched, polish it with fine sandpaper (#300~400) and then apply oil. Amani oil and walnut oil dry quickly. If the surface is sticky, let it dry for a while.
Enjoy aging:
Olive wood is resistant to mold and bacteria. The wood breathes, shrinks, and sometimes cracks as it ages. Please enjoy it as a characteristic of the wood. We hope you will use it for a long time.
The grain and shape of each piece are unique. Please note that we are unable to offer exactly the same piece as in the photo. Olive products may have some scratches, small cracks, restorations, or insect bite marks due to the nature of the wood. Please be aware of these characteristics before purchasing.
