The material is porcelain, water ground by handmade rokuro molding, and immediately flattened.
The bottom of the potter's wheel is left as it was when the wheel was cut off.
After that, mud plaster is applied and the flower design is painted with underglaze pigments.
Blue-colored material is applied to the outside of the design.
The outside of the design is then fired at 1,260°C (1260°F) in an unglazed firing chamber.
The inside is matte white porcelain glaze, and the blue coloring on the outside is a result of the blue coloring on the outside of the glaze.
The blue coloring on the inside is due to the blue material on the outside passing through the base during the firing process.
The blue coloring on the outside goes through the base to the inside during the firing process, creating a unique atmosphere.

The ◎ design is a relief relief, which is heaped up one by one with the colored clay.
The softness of the porcelain clay can be enjoyed with shochu, sake, beer, juice, tea, coffee...

Tou Tsuchiyama

The original brand of potter Keiji Tsuchiyama, Tou Tsuchiyama. The first generation of pottery was established in Higashiyama, Kyoto, by the first-generation potter from Terai, Nomi City, Ishikawa Prefecture, in the Taisho Era (1912-1926) and has continued for three to five generations.

Since the first generation, the kiln has specialized in underglaze blue and red porcelain. The pottery has earned the trust of the pottery industry for its precise work in Shozui, landscape, flower-and-bird, and other designs. Tsuchiyama has been producing beautiful and easy-to-use vessels based on this tradition.

Our pottery is not monotonous, heavy pieces made by mold making or machine crocheting. Our "usuzukuri" vessels are handmade using Kyoto Kiyomizuyaki techniques and are comfortable to hold in the hand. Our pottery is easy to use, suitable for any kind of food, and pursues beauty. We produce a wide variety of designs that can be used for everyday use or as gifts.
