The material is porcelain and each piece is handmade by hand and molded by a potter's wheel.
The glaze is a subdued matte white porcelain.
Because the base is thin, the weight of the handle will bend the body when fired under normal conditions.
The body will be bent by the weight of the handle when fired in the normal state.
Therefore, all of my coffee cups and mugs are fired face down.
(Turn the top and bottom upside down).
After that, the edge of the cup is smoothed by overglaze painting.
The handle is easy to hold and the surface of the cup is smooth.
You can also use it as a teacup with its easy-to-hold handle and clean shape.
The cups can be used as teacups as well.

Tou Tsuchiyama

The original brand of potter Keiji Tsuchiyama, Tou Tsuchiyama. The first generation of pottery was established in Higashiyama, Kyoto, by the first-generation potter from Terai, Nomi City, Ishikawa Prefecture, in the Taisho Era (1912-1926) and has continued for three to five generations.

Since the first generation, the kiln has specialized in underglaze blue and red porcelain. The pottery has earned the trust of the pottery industry for its precise work in Shozui, landscape, flower-and-bird, and other designs. Tsuchiyama has been producing beautiful and easy-to-use vessels based on this tradition.

Our pottery is not monotonous, heavy pieces made by mold making or machine crocheting. Our "usuzukuri" vessels are handmade using Kyoto Kiyomizuyaki techniques and are comfortable to hold in the hand. Our pottery is easy to use, suitable for any kind of food, and pursues beauty. We produce a wide variety of designs that can be used for everyday use or as gifts.
